The Building Leadership Capacity in Rural West Virginia initiative received official notice of funding in October, 2013. McDowell County Schools is serving as the Lead Organization, along with collaborating partner districts Fayette County Schools, and Raleigh County Schools. The following project leadership positions were filled by January, 2014: Project Director, Curriculum Training Provider, External Evaluator, 3 Training Coordinators (one for each of the target districts), and a Data Assistant.
The principal development training program officially began on February 4, 2014 with an orientation for all stakeholders. Twenty participants were selected for the first-year cohort and have begun the Educational Leadership Inventory (ELI) assessment process that will drive their individual professional development program over the next year. Each of the participants has been assigned a nationally/internationally recognized educational leader. A training curriculum has been designed and organized for a day-long training session each month.
Various qualitative and quantitative base-line data have been gathered to help inform the process and outcome evaluation design components.
